Hélder Cruz
Junior Researcher
Helder Cardoso-Cruz is a researcher at the Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IBMC) and Faculty of Medicine of Oporto (FMUP) in Portugal. His research interest is the relationship between pain and cognitive functions, namely the prefrontal-hippocampus dynamics during working-memory processing. His research involves an interdisciplinary approach, combining extracellular multi-channel electrophysiology techniques, behavior performance evaluation, optogenetics brain stimulation, development of analytical tools for the study of neuronal dynamics, and design and implementation of algorithms for decoding neuronal data. He obtained his B.Sc. degree in Applied Biology at the University of Minho (2001, Braga, Portugal). In 2002, he moved to Oporto to joint Vasco Galhardo laboratory where he pursued his graduate studies. The M.Sc. degree was obtained in 2008 at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Oporto with the thesis The thalamo-cortical oscillations: algorithms to search neuronal patterns. In 2008, he was awarded a FCT fellowship to carry out doctoral studies under supervision of Professor Vasco Galhardo. In 2012, he obtained his doctorate degree (FMUP, Portugal) with the thesis Cortical and subcortical oscillatory dynamics in nociceptive information processing: sensorial and cognitive aspects.
