Miguel has a BSc in Biochemistry from FCUP/ICBAS (UP) and a MSc in Plant Molecular Biology, Biotechnology and Bioentrepreneurship from UM.

He carried out the project "The influence of X-STRs on the development of ovarian cancer" at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology from Porto, as his BSc thesis and developed his MSc dissertation project "Biological insights from the whole genome resequencing of Portuguese grapevine varieties" at CIBIO-InBIO.
