José das Neves
Junior Researcher

José das Neves graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2003) and holds a MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology (2007) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2013) from the University of Porto, Portugal. He was a visiting PhD student at Northeastern University (USA) and at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Belgium). Prior to engaging in a full-time research career, he gained experience in drug therapeutics as a pharmacist at the Hospital Geral de Sto. António, Portugal (2004-2009). His broad research interest includes nanomedicine, mucosal drug delivery and biomaterials. José's current research focuses specifically on the development of drug delivery strategies for the prevention or treatment of sexually transmitted infections and lower female genital tract diseases. As of August 2019, he is the author of 61 peer-reviewed articles, 11 book chapters, 68 presentations at scientific meetings and 1 international patent. He is the co-Editor of 4 scientific books, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Pharmacology (Frontiers Media) and PLOS ONE (Public Library of Science), and Editorial Board member of Drug Delivery Letters (Bentham Science) and 4Open (EDP Sciences). He is also an active collaborator of the Global Burden of Disease Study since 2015, contributing to 28 peer-reviewed articles from this international consortium.
