CONFERENCE: STEAM AND THE FUTURE OF EDUCATION
Interdisciplinary Innovation and the Integration of the 4 Cultures Domain
19-20 September 2022 | Porto, Portugal

At a time when STEAM practices start to get attention from Higher Education (HE), the Hybrid Lab Network proposes a collaborative reflection on how STEAM might be approached and embedded in the culture of HE and non-formal adult education. Is STEAM the Educational CRISPR? Should we be tackling STEAM or HYBRID as the new educational paradigm? Does HYBRID go beyond STEAM?

The Hybrid Lab Network Conference will be held in Porto, Portugal, on September 19 – 20. We invite scientists, artists, educators, funding agencies, policymakers, non-governmental organizations, and other interested parties in STEAM and in inter-transdisciplinary educational practices to join us in the discussion about STEAM and the Future of Education.

This discussion includes rethinking innovation, autonomy, curricular flexibility, and collaborative and sustainable approaches to tackle the 4 Cultures (Arts, Sciences, Engineering/ Technology, Humanities) and the 3 Sectors (Academia, Research, and Society) in a post-disciplinary scenario.

During this event, the Hybrid Lab Network (an Erasmus + Higher Education project) will share its experience on exploratory and speculative STEAM Teaching and Learning activities in Higher Education and beyond. HYBRID explored a multidisciplinary approach to improve STEAM training, particularly in bio-sciences, including the development of didactic tools and resources to promote critical and creative thinking and innovation that will be shared in this meeting.

Also called to offer their contribution are those who have been focusing on the challenges pointed out by OECD’s Education 2030 (also targeted by the EU agenda for Higher Education), as well as addressing the profile of student/ researcher/ citizen/ worker, and the skills Higher Education should provide them.

The programme includes?plenary sessions with keynote speakers, round tables, and panels of selected short presentations (see the call for applications).?We hence encourage all those interested in these topics – including academics, practitioners, and students – to share their experiences and good practices, namely in innovative pedagogical approaches, including multi-disciplinary strategies, the design of new curricula, and delivery methods.
