Where Ideas Grow

Discussing resilient science in the BiotechHealth Annual Symposium

28 June 2022 | i3S, Porto

The IX BiotechHealth Annual Symposium is back to i3S, on the 28th of June, at Mariano Gago Auditorium.
This Symposium is organized yearly by the students of the International Ph.D. Program in Molecular and Cellular Biotechnology Applied to Health Sciences (BiotechHealth), from Faculdade de Farmácia and Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, University of Porto. The multidisciplinarity of this Doctoral Program aims to promote collaborations between academia, the clinic, and industry, encompassing various areas such as nanomedicine, biology, bioinformatics, and/ or biomaterials.
This year, due to the easing of restrictions associated with Covid-19, the Symposium will be in-person, in order to promote greater interaction between the academic community, the clinic, and companies in the Biotechnology sector.
The 9th edition is themed "Resilient Science in a Changing World", as a reference to scientists that withstand adversity. In a world that is constantly changing, researchers face new challenges on a daily basis, yet overcome them successfully and contribute to a greater appreciation of science by society.
In this program, there will be talks by Sandra Vieira (iBiMED, University of Aveiro), Mónica López Fanarraga (Insituto Valdecilla IDIVAL, University of Cantabria), Valérie Taly (Cordeliers Research Center, University of Paris), among many others. In the end, there will be a Round Table moderated by Maria José Oliveira (i3S), where the aim is to discuss the role of resilience in science and show that, even when things don’t work out as planned, there is always a new opportunity to thrive and achieve valuable results.
