8th edition: Training Course Genetics in Family Medicine – Spring 2023

May 5th, 2023 | Hybrid event – i3S (Corino de Andrade Auditorium) and Online

The CGPP organizes the 8th edition of the Training Course Genetics in General and Family Medicine.
The aim of this course is to enable health professionals working in primary care to update their knowledge and skills in the field of medical genetics. In long term, we hope to contribute to health care improvement provided to genetic disease patients and to raise awareness about potential genetic risks in a family. Thus, guest speakers will address relevant topics in a practical format, based on the presentation of clinical cases and warning signs for Medical Genetics referral, supported by tools and resources generally used in clinical practice.
At a time in which genetic tests are increasingly present in clinical practice and their usefulness is significantly reinforced, obtaining and using genetic data has been leading to an exponential increase of genetic tests performed. In this edition, we will revisit basic themes and concepts of Medical Genetics, with the most recent advances in genetic diagnosis in consideration. We will also learn about the referral experience of a Family Doctor, understand what diagnostic methodologies are currently available, the challenges in interpreting results, as well as addressing the warning signs for genetic eye diseases. Finally, there will be room for discussion and debate about genetics and the future of primary care.

The course will be lectured in Portuguese.

Target audience: Specialists and Interns in General and Family Medicine, Doctors and Interns from other Specialties, and other Health Professionals.

Organization: CGPP – Centro de Genética Preditiva e Preventiva, i3S
