Researchers from i3S among the best in the world

The “World's Best Scientists 2025” rankings from Research.com, which annually classify the world’s best and most influential scientists in their respective fields, have been released, and 16 i3S researchers are listed among the world’s best. Of particular note is researcher Carla Oliveira, who is the top Portuguese female in the field of Genetics, and researcher and pathologist Fátima Carneiro, who is the sixth most cited within the University of Porto.

The analysis criteria used to classify the researchers include the number of citations and the H-Index, an indicator that measures a researcher’s influence based on their scientific publications and the number of times other researchers cite them. The higher the H-Index, the greater the impact and recognition of their work within the scientific community. Each scientist’s profile also takes into account the number of publications they have produced.
It should be noted that the vast majority of the listed researchers are also included in the most recent update of the “World’s Top 2% Scientists list”, which classifies the most cited scientists globally in their respective fields, according to SCOPUS, the world's largest database of scientific publication abstracts and citations.
