Francisco Vasques-Nóvoa
Collaborator

Dr. Vasques-Nóvoa received his Masters in Medicine in 2011 from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP) and finished his training in Internal Medicine (2017) at the University Hospital of São João (HSJ) in Porto. Dr. Vasques-Nóvoa’s clinical practice has been focused on Cardiovascular Medicine at the HSJ Heart Failure and Cardiovascular Risk Clinics. He is currently a lecturer in Physiology (since 2007) and Internal Medicine (since 2012) at FMUP. He started his research activity during his graduation at FMUP’s Physiology Department (2006) under supervision of Prof. Adelino Leite-Moreira, collaborating in several basic research projects on Pulmonary Hypertension, during which he gained expertise on functional cardiac evaluation (P-V loop analysis and echocardiography), molecular biology and microscopy techniques. He then started a new translational research line in the Department together with Prof. Roberto Roncon-Albuquerque Jr. dedicated to the understanding of Sepsis-associated Cardiovascular Dysfunction. Since then, Dr. Vasques-Nóvoa has implemented several models of experimental septic shock and initiated a collaboration with the HSJ Intensive Care and Pathology Departments, which has enabled the collection of a significant number of plasma and post-mortem myocardial samples from septic shock patients.
