In 1999 I finish my 4-year undergraduate degree in Microbiology at Superior School of Biotechnology, Catholic University of Porto. From 1999 till 2000 I performed an MSc in Infectious Disease, with the dissertation title "Cytokines regulation of MMP-9 secretion in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infected monocytes ", at Hammersmith Hospital, Imperial College School of Science, Technology and Medicine, University London, being approved with distinction. In 2001 I worked in Clinical Trials of phase I, in the Human Pharmacology Unit, in the pharmaceutical company BIAL, as part of the bioanalytical research team. From January of 2002 until present I am a member of the Neuroscience Research Group of the former Institute of Histology and Embryology, now Department of Experimental Biology, of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto and of the Morphophysiology of the Nervous System Group at Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology (IBMC). From January 2002 until September 2005 I worked as a research assistant in the FCT project ?The role of metabotropic receptors in the thalamic processing of chronic pain?, from October 2005 till March 2012 as a research assistant in the FCT project ?Neurobiological mechanisms of pain associated with osteoarthritis? and from April 2012 until present as a research assistant in the FCT project ?Neuronal injury of primary afferent neurons associated with experimental osteoarthritis?. In June of 2013 I finished my PhD in Neurosciences at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto, with the dissertation title ?Neurobiological mechanisms of pain associated with osteoarthritis?, being approved by unanimity with distinction. Meanwhile from June 2004 till January 2005 I was an Assistant Lecturer Trainee of the curricular unit Histology and Embryology of Medical Degree of Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. From January 2005 till June 2013 I was Assistant Lecturer of the curricular unit Histology and Embryology of Medical Degree of Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto. In June of 2013 I became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Experimental Biology of the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto. I have published 10 peer-reviewed original articles in international journals, 6 of which as first author. I have been also involved in postgraduate teaching and supervised several undergraduate and master students.
