Where Ideas grow

Course in Research: Ethics & Integrity

April-June 2021 | 14:30 – 16:30 | i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde

This 28-hours course aims at promoting the discussion of case studies and a reflective approach to national and international documents in research ethics and integrity. By understanding and critically debating research ethics-specific issues, students will assimilate the importance of scientific integrity while acquiring key reasoning skills that will significantly increase the scientific quality and impact of their future research.

Due to a growing number of scientific fraud reported cases, research ethics and integrity have been the focus of regulamentation by the European Community. However, the answer to this problem cannot be restricted to norms and regulatory measures, since without reflective training, this normative approach will fall short of its objectives. Without due training in this area, misconduct and questionable practices in research are likely to go on, destroying trust in science and scientists and without trust, science cannot move forward.

Target audience: PhD students enrolled in the doctoral programmes of MCbiology and BiotechHealth.

Requirement: The participant should bring a personal laptop for the sessions.

Organizer: Susana Magalhães, Unit for Responsible Conduct in Research, i3S
