Clinical Initiatives

I3S aims to integrate the regional strategy, translated into the partnerships established with Health Cluster Portugal (HCP) and UPTEC. HCP promotes and fosters cooperation between companies, research institutes, universities and public entities, with the purpose of increasing business turnover, exports and qualified employment, in health-related economic areas. I3S's strong connection to major hospitals of the region, namely CH S João, CH Porto and IPO, makes it a pivotal player in the development of the health cluster in Northern Portugal.

There is a significant number of collaborations between IBMC, INEB and IPATIMUP with industry and Hospitals. These collaborations lead to Clinical initiatives such as: the Center for Preventive and Predictive Genetics (CGPP), which carries out more than 2500 genetic tests and about 500 consultations per year; the IPATIMUP Diagnostics performs histo- and cytopathological and molecular diagnostic and forensic services for hospitals and courts in Portugal and abroad, and it is an internationally renowned center for stomach and thyroid cancers that provides more than 16,000 tests per year; and the Medical Simulation Center at the Faculty of Medicine designed for medical training in the field of obstetrics.
