CM 30 /2025_PRR - Acquisition of Automated Ultramicrotome
Publication Date: 2025.12.17Deadline for submission of proposals: 2025.12.23 01:00 PMUnder Decree-Law 60/2018 of August 3rd and to comply with Article 1º-A of the Public Procurement Code and the Interpretative Communication of the Commission - 2006/C 179/02, published in the Official Journal of 01/08/2006, i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde da Universidade do Porto - Associação (“i3S”) hereby makes public its need for the Acquisition of Automated Ultramicrotome
With the acquisition of this equipment, i3S intends to equip its laboratories with the necessary material resources to develop its research and development activities in the area of biological sample preparation for electron microscopy. An automated high‑precision ultramicrotome is required to produce serial ultrathin sections (20–100 nm) of resin‑embedded biological samples or solid materials, optimized for array tomography, with automated collection of ribbons/sections onto substrates such as wafers and grids for 3D reconstruction in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The equipment must also allow the production of semithin sections as well as smooth surfaces required for LM and AFM examinations. By integrating a motorized segmented arc and a state‑of‑the‑art knife stage with automated setup functions, it will reduce experimental variability and increase the reproducibility of results. With an intuitive and configurable interface, it will allow parameters to be adjusted quickly and safely, adapting to different types of samples and protocols, and will form a complete platform for sample preparation and analysis for laboratories working with high‑resolution electron microscopy and correlative microscopy. It is also worth mentioning that this same interface promotes energy efficiency, waste reduction, and environmental sustainability throughout the equipment's life cycle.
With the aforementioned acquisition, i3S intends to equip its laboratories with the material resources necessary for the development of its research and development activities, within the scope of EQUIPAR+2 competition - National Investment for the Strengthening of Scientific Equipment in R&D Units
