CM 39/2026_CEMPRE-N - Integrated benchtop nucleic acid sequencing system based on nanopore technology or equivalent, with integrated computational processing
Publication Date: 2026.08.12Deadline for submission of proposals: 2026.08.20 05:00 PMPursuant to Decree-Law No. 60/2018 of 3 August, and in compliance with Article 1-A of the Portuguese Public Procurement Code and the European Commission Interpretative Communication 2006/C 179/02, published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 1 August 2006, i3S hereby makes public its requirement for an Integrated Benchtop Nucleic Acid Sequencing System based on nanopore technology, or equivalent, with integrated computational processing.
Through this acquisition, i3S intends to equip its Laboratory with the material resources necessary to support the development of its activities within the framework “operação «Centro de Medicina de Precisão do Norte (CEMPRE-N)», com o código NORTE2030-FEDER-03427900, aprovada no âmbito do Programa Regional Norte 2021-2027 (NORTE 2030), cuja despesa é cofinanciada pelo Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), através do NORTE 2030.”
The Integrated System to be acquired will enable the implementation of advanced next-generation sequencing (NGS) approaches, including long-read sequencing, methylation analysis, structural variant detection, single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis, and whole-genome sequencing. These methodologies will help overcome the limitations of amplification-based testing, expand the diagnostic portfolio, and support a greater number of patients within the Portuguese National Health Service (SNS).
Furthermore, the acquisition will contribute to a more sustainable approach by enabling integrated and multiparametric testing within a single analysis. This will provide greater energy efficiency, optimize the use of laboratory resources, and reduce experimental waste, including reduced consumption of reagents and disposable plastic materials, fewer repeat laboratory procedures, reduced sample transportation requirements, and lower production of chemical and biological waste, among other benefits.
In light of the above, the acquisition of this equipment is aligned with the objectives of the European Green Deal, particularly with regard to the promotion of environmentally sustainable practices, enhanced energy efficiency, and the reduction of the carbon footprint associated with laboratory activities.
