Christiane Salgado
Associate Researcher

Dr. Christiane L. Salgado (female) is specialized in the development of biodegradable synthetic bone substitutes such as biomimetic scaffold based on collagen and nanohydroxyapatite with desired biological response, biodegradation and mechanical behavior and modulate the cellular differentiation. She is currently Junior researcher at i3S at the at Biocomposites group. With a background of Dental Medicine (Brazil), a master degree in Sciences (Specialized in human physiology and pharmacology) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at State University of Campinas (Brazil) in 2009. C. Salgado has been engaged in technology transfer projacts including the development of an industrial prototype in collaboration with Arthur Salgado Lta that after approval will be commercialized as a medical device for orthopedic application. Now, she decided to focus on the development of luminescent dental mesenchymal stem cells to study the bone regenerative process into 3D composite polymers with in vivo real-time evaluation in collaboration with Dr. Sónia Melo of IPATIMUP (Genetic Dynamics of Cancer Cells group). To this date, she was successful in establishing national and international collaborations (2 international projects) that resulted in 16 papers, h-index of 9 (Scopus, Jan 2020) and 3 awards. She is also involved in Master and Doctoral supervision (FEUP), educational activities, lab management and science dissemination strategies.
