Maria João Castro
PhD Student

Maria João Castro graduated in Biotechnology at University of Algarve. During her degree, she published an article entitled "Chemical and physical pretreatment of microalgal biomass" which is a chapter of the book "INCREaSE 2019" published in 2019. Since the beginning of 2021, Maria has been at the Institute of Health Research and Innovation (i3s) - University of Porto, where she authored two scientific articles, one entitled "The IFT20 homolog in Caenorhabditis elegans is required for ciliogenesis and cilia-mediated behavior" (microPubBiology (2021)) and the other entitled "WDR60-mediated dynein-2 loading into cilia powers retrograde IFT and transition zone crossing" (Journal of Cell Biology (2022)) with the Dr. Tiago Dantas' team. Recently, she acquired her Master's degree in Medicine and Molecular Oncology at University of Porto, developed her thesis at i3s entitled "Investigating the contributions of BRCA2 for cell proliferation in Caenorhabditis elegans" integrated into Dra. Carla Abreu's team.
