Ricardo Monteiro is a PhD student in the Host-Parasite Interactions group, supervised by Doctor Joana Tavares. He earned a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy from the School of Health of Polytechnic Institute of Porto where he graduated in 2020. Ricardo's passion for scientific research began in his second year of the Master’s, when he went to the Cellular and Molecular Pharmacology lab of University of Bologna. There, he led his project investigating the effects of resveratrol on the regulation of transcription factors REST and FoxO3 in medulloblastoma cells. After graduation, Ricardo worked as a research fellow in the Parasite Disease group at Institute for Research and Innovation in Health, contributing to multiple projects. In 2021, he participated in a project aimed at uncovering new derivatives of miltefosine for Leishmaniasis and Spleeping Sickness, under supervision of Doctor Nuno Santarém. He began his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences in late 2021, focusing on the characterization of the cellular and antibody response to COVID-19 vaccines in immunocompromised individuals. Ricardo has contributed for 1 research article and about 6 communications for national and international conferences. He has attended several specialized meetings and conferences on immunology, virology and infectious diseases. Additionally, he co-supervised 1 undergraduate student and he is Invited Assistant at the School of Health of Polytechnic Institute of Porto.
