Where Ideas Grow
Miguel Horta
PhD Student

Miguel Horta attained his master’s degree from the Integrated Masters in Bioengineering, at the Faculty of Engineering and Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar of the University of Porto in 2015, where he acquired theoretical and practical expertise on the production and characterization of lipidic and magnetic nanoparticles. In 2016, he collaborated with REQUIMTE UCIBIO under a master researcher grant in the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. There, he co-authored 4 scientific papers in the field of biomimetic liposomes. During the following 2 years, he was involved in the creation of a start-up dedicated to the development of nanoparticle-enhanced sunscreen lotions, where he was the responsible for its research and development department. Since 2020, Miguel is a PhD student enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Neurosciences from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Currently, he is working on the project titled “A Swiss-knife nanotechnology approach to glioblastoma treatment” in the i3S group Cancer Signaling and Metabolism, under the supervision of Doctor Raquel T. Lima and co-supervision of Doctor Catarina Leite Pereira. His main research areas of interest include the nanotechnology field, more specifically lipidic and magnetic nanoparticles, and tumor microenvironment modulation, particularly glioblastoma.

Miguel was involved in the writing of 4 scientific papers and has presented its current and past work in several national and international conferences.
