Where Ideas Grow
Carlos Botelho
Research Fellowship (MSc)

Carlos Botelho holds a Master's Degree in Molecular Bioengineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and the School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS).

He joined the Microenvironments for New Therapies (MiNT) Research Group at i3S, in 2021, as a Research Intern and later, in 2022, as an MSc Student. He worked under the supervision of Professor Mário Barbosa on the development of 3D biomimetic hydrogels based on the decellularization of rat-derived intestinal extracellular matrices.

His main interests include tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, disease modeling using 3D microenvironments and sustainable biomaterials.

Carlos is currently a Research Fellow as part of the FETBIO Project – Fetal-inspired hierarchical biomaterials for regeneration in a harsh microenvironment: the nucleus of the intervertebral disc (PTDC/BTM-MAT/0438/2020).
