Where Ideas Grow
David Rodrigues
Research fellow

David Rodrigues completed a Master's in Bioengineering at Universidade do Porto, Portugal, in 2023. His dissertation work was performed at i3S in the Bioengineering & Synthetic Microbiology group, on the project entitled “Improving the production of the heterologous compatible solute betaine in Synechocystis-based chassis”.

In 2022, David performed a research internship at the Laboratory of Applied Space Microbiology (LASM), affiliated with Universität Bremen, Germany, where he worked on the project “Responses of cyanobacteria to environmental stressors associated with Mars’s ground and atmosphere”.

Currently, David is a research fellow associated with the PhotoSynH2 project (“Photosynthetic electron focusing technology for direct efficient biohydrogen production from solar energy”), researching how to engineer the model cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 to achieve higher growth rates.
