Sara Silva
Post-doctoral Fellow

Sara Silva received a BSc in Biomedical Science at the University of Algarve. She then took her Master's Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto. Her master's thesis was developed at Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Of Faculty of Science with collaboration at Instituto Ricardo Jorge in Porto, where she aimed to develop new antimicrobial peptides against mycobacterium tuberculosis. She had the opportunity to manually synthesize and characterize therapeutical peptides and work with human pathogen in a level 3 (P3) biosafety environment.

In 2018, enrolled in the Doctoral Programme of Pharmaceutical Science of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto. She was granted through i3DU doctoral programme, a FCT doctoral grant to develop a dual-delivery system composed of cell-penetrating peptides and nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

With an interdisciplinary background, Sara's expertise includes peptide synthesis, preparation, characterization, and functionalization of nanoparticles, drug delivery, cell culture, and biomaterials.

At the moment, she is a Pos-Doc Fellow in the Molecular Biomaterials Group at i3S
