Post-doctoral Fellow

Lígia Costa holds a Master’s degree in Biochemistry from NOVA University Lisbon. Her research career has been focused on biomaterials, with skills developed in characterization techniques, histology-based methods, angiogenesis-related assays (CAM) and cell culture.

She is currently finishing a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minho, focused on bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) for biomedical applications, ranging from material characterization and immunomodulatory strategies through laser-induced topography modification to the development of drug delivery systems.

At present, she has joined the BEMIC group at i3S as a research member of the La Caixa Foundation–funded project “Biomimetic Bacterial Nanocellulose Medical Device with Gradient Porosity for Osteochondral Repair.
