Advanced Course on Organoids Models | 4th Edition

16-19 April 2024 | i3S, Porto

The main aim of this course is to present the fundamentals of organoid models, specifically intestinal, gastric and lung models. Participants will learn the basic principles of working with these models, how to culture and maintain them. Moreover, they will be instructed on how to plan and run experiments using organoids, as well as on methods to analyse experimental data/ results. Microfluidics and organs-on-chip will also be explored. The specific protocols used for imaging, molecular biology and histology using organoids will be covered.

Target audicence: MSc / PhD Students / Researchers

Course approximate duration: 35 hours

Requirements: Participants should bring their own laptop and labcoat.

Prior knowledge required:

• Basic training in Biology, Bioengineering or related sciences;
• Cell culture techniques knowledge;

Participants will acquire the following skills:

• establish and maintain cultures of intestinal, gastric and lung organoids;
• learn how to design and plan experiments using organoids;
• learn how to choose, set up and work with organs on chips;
• prepare organoids samples for histological analysis;
• analyze practical outcomes of their cultures by imaging techniques (brightfield and confocal microscopy).

Certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course to participants that meet the following: presence in 90% of the theoretical classes; presence in all practical and theoretical-practical classes.

Cancelation policy:

In case of cancelation, the registration fee will not be refunded.

The organizer reserves the right to cancel the course in case of an insufficient number of participants, organizational reasons, for other unforeseeable events that render the execution of the course impossible. The organizer shall immediately inform the pre-registered participants of such changes.
