Training Course Genetics in Family Medicine – 10th edition

February 21st, 2025 | Hybrid event – i3S (Meeting room A) and Online

The CGPP organizes the 10th edition of the Training Course Genetics in General and Family Medicine.

The aim of this course is to enable healthcare professionals working in primary care to update their knowledge and skills in the field of medical genetics. In the long term we hope to contribute to an improvement in healthcare provided to users with genetic diseases and awareness of those with potential genetic risks in a family. Thus, guest speakers will address relevant topics in a practical format, based on the presentation of clinical cases and warning signs for referral in Medical Genetics, supported by tools and resources adapted to the daily reality of clinical practice.

In an era in which genetic tests are increasingly present in clinical practice and their usefulness is significantly reinforced, the collection and use of genetic data has resulted in a better understanding of attention disorders and intellectual development. In this edition we will revisit basic themes and concepts in Medical Genetics, in the light of the most recent advances in genetic diagnosis and highlight the role of the family doctor in identifying warning signs and referring people affected or at risk for genetic conditions. Also, in updating current topics such as autism and intellectual deficit in children or attention and hyperactivity disorder in adults.

The course will be lectured in Portuguese.

Target audience: Specialists and Interns in General and Family Medicine, Doctors and Interns from other Specialties and other Health Professionals.

Organization: CGPP – Centro de Genética Preditiva e Preventiva, i3S
