Course: Genetic Odyssey in Lisbon

13th April & 29th June 2019

Sala Polivalente | Instituto de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Lisboa

Av. Prof. Aníbal Bettencourt, 9 1600-189 Lisboa

Your family history goes well beyond than the written records allow to know. The majority of people will have the greatest difficulty in getting to know who were their ancestors after a third or fourth generation.

However, the genes of each person accomplished an epic trip to the present day, being compared to a unique registration of that long generational journey.

Our genes are a precious and lasting asset passed down from generation to generation, allowing species continuity. Genetic changes are being introduced to every generation, establishing new markers that can be traced back sequentially. That is why it is now possible to do the genetic characterization of each individual’s ancestry, tracing back their origins and following the human migrations that have brought the genes upon each individual.

During this course, we will undertake a trip leading to the discovery of the participants' roots, a history narrated by their genes through the analysis of a DNA microarray containing hundreds of thousands of genetic markers.

This little walk through history will be divided into two sessions:

First session: 13 April  2019 | 11h00 – 13h00

Second session: 29 June 2019 | 11h00 – 13h00

Individual Registration: 150 euros
