Where Ideas Grow

HR Excellence

The i3S welcomes the initiative of the European Commission which is described in the “European Charter for Researchers” and the “Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers”.

i3S has been granted the European Human Resources Excellence in Research Award (HRS4R) in January 2024.

By adhering to the European Charter for Researchers and to the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (link), i3S and the founder Institutes (IBMC, INEB and Ipatimup) are committed to following the principles laid out in the documents, wishing to create an adequate framework for all its researchers, to improve the conditions for the incorporation of researchers and to contribute to enhancing the attractiveness of the research career in Europe as proposed by the European Commission.

The European Charter for Researchers is a set of general principles and requirements that specify the roles, responsibilities and rights of researchers, as well as those of the entities that employ and/or fund researchers. From this set, i3S highlights the principles of recognition of the profession, the research environment, non-discrimination, working conditions, funding and salaries, gender equity and career progression.

The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers defines that employers and/or funders should establish recruitment procedures that are open, efficient, transparent and internationally comparable.

History

In line with the plan to transition the activities of the founding institutes to i3S and the principles defined by i3S to conduct research with a sense of responsibility, ethics and value, the three Human Resources departments of the founding institutes submitted an application to the European Commission for the HRS4R - Human Resources Excellence in Research Award - which was granted in 2021.

At the beginning of 2024 and in the course of an interim report that is part of the European Commission's periodic evaluation, the HRS4R Award was renewed and, given the stage of implementation of the transition plan for research activities, i3S was officially recognized as an institution holding the award.

Evaluation

The next evaluation will take place in three years, hoping that the national political strategy for R&D can contribute to the implementation of the action plan outlined for the next three years.
