Action Painting to Live Music

Next Tuesday (18Jan), i3S is hosting a session of action painting to live music at our main hall to which you are all invited.

Adam Zaretsky and Paulo Bernardino Bastos, two internationally acclaimed artists, will lead the session with a number of i3S researchers as performers, including Elsa Logarinho, Carlos Conde, Eurico Sá, Mónica Sousa, Pedro Brites and many others.

Artists and scientists will collaborate to produce a soundscape and translate the sonic performance into abstract art. In turn, the live abstract action painting will influence the live musical accompaniment. The audience is invited to participate in the music development.

This session is part of a larger initiative called COPRAXIS, which aims to boost creation in visual arts from an experimental process at the intersection of art/science/technology.

It is based on the creation of works resulting from a period of artistic residencies at i3S and at the artistic research space at Ectopia, encouraging the support for the creation and development of exploration projects in the space of intersection between various areas of knowledge. From this intersection of experiences and dialogue with scientific research in life sciences, the development of forms of discourse and an innovative artistic pulse will also be sought.

The project encompasses residencies to 8 artists, but also the creation of 3 Hybrid sessions between artists and researchers to promote transdisciplinary enrichment. These sessions will be held on 18 January, 3 February and 3 March.

The program at i3S also includes the production of one COPRAXIS exhibition open to the public (scheduled to April).
