Joana Ferreira-Gomes received her BSc in Microbiology from the School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University, her MSc in Infectious Diseases from the Imperial College School of Science, Technology and Medicine and her Medical degree and PhD in Neurosciences by the Faculty of Medicine of University of Porto.
She worked in Clinical Trials of phase I, in the Human Pharmacology Unit, in the pharmaceutical company BIAL, as part of the bioanalytical research team.
Since 2013 she is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biomedicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Porto. She has been teaching Histology and Embryology, for several years, while also taking part in PhD and MSc lectures from University of Porto.
She is a Researcher at i3S and has been working in the neurobiological mechanisms of pain where she has participated in several financed projects, authored full papers in periodicals indexed to ISI-web of knowledge and supervised PhD and master students.
Recently Joana Ferreira-Gomes is establishing a new line of research that congregates her background areas and that focus on the role of the gut-brain axis in neurodevelopment disorders, with particular focus on ADHD.
