I graduated in Bioengineering (BSc+MSc) from the University of Porto in 2016. As a MSc student and research fellow at the Nerve Regeneration Group, I studied the contribution of a key axonal structure –the axon initial segment (AIS)- to neuronal polarity. I am interested in research that focuses on disease mechanisms as it may lead to an improvement in health care. So I started my PhD in 2017 with the aim of dissecting the role of sensory neurons in the pathophysiology of neuropathic pain. For that, a multidisciplinary approach is being used which spans a wide range of techniques, from standard microscopy methods to calcium imaging and patch clamp electrophysiology (in collaboration with the Neuronal Networks Group).
