Bárbara Sousa
Junior Researcher
Bárbara Sousa is a post-doc researcher at Cancer Genetics group, at IPATIMUP. Bárbara?s research focuses on breast cacner, specifically on the the role of P-cadherin expression in breast cancer cell metabolism and its impact in the the metastatic process. Bárbara Sousa graduated in Biochemistry by the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (Portugal), and her BSc trainee was performed under the supervision of Prof. Fernando Schmiitt and Prof. Joana Paredes, in a project entitled ?Immunohistochemical characterization of a series of invasive breast carcinomas by Tissue Microarrays?. Furthermore, Bárbara applied to a grant in order to develop the work of a collaboration project with SANOFI-Aventis: ?P-cadherin expression: its effect in breast cancer metastasis and angiogenesis using in vivo mouse models?. In 2010, Bárbara started her PhD in Pathology and Molecular Genetics from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (Porto, Portugal), developed under direct supervision of Prof. Joana Paredes, and it was mainly focused in unravel the role of P-cadherin expression in breast cancer cell?s metabolism. During this period, she published two original papers as first author as well as she is co-author of 17 original papers published in international journals.
