Associate professor and head of the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at the University of Debrecen, Hungary. His research group, supported also by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, focuses on the anatomical and functional connectivity and development of the superficial dorsal horn of the spinal cord. In collaboration with Boris Safronov?s group in Porto he described the detailed axon morphology and connectivity of lamina I projection- and interneurons. More recently, he uses optogenetics to reveal descending and local modulation of the spinal dorsal horn circuitry processing nociceptive information. He has an MD and acquired his PhD in neurobiology/theoretical medicine at the University of Debrecen.
