Hugo Pinheiro graduated in Biology by the Faculty of Sciences from the University of Porto in 2004. In 2007 he has completed a Master?s Degree in Molecular Genetics by the School of Sciences from the University of Minho, and in 2011 he obtained his PhD in Biomedicine by the Faculty of Medicine from the University of Porto after a work developed in Ipatimup (Porto) in collaboration with the Cluster in Biomedicine (Trieste, Italy) and the British Columbia Cancer Agency (Vancouver, Canada). Currently he is in the final year (6th) from the Integrated Master in Medicine at the School of Health Sciences from University of Minho. Hugo started is scientific career in 2003 at IBMC (Porto) and joined Ipatimup as a graduate student in 2005. Since 2012 he is a Post-doctoral fellow at the Expression Regulation in Cancer group. Hugo?s research focuses on the clarification of molecular determinants of sporadic and hereditary forms of gastrointestinal cancer. Additionally he is interested on the expansion of the current knowledge regarding transcription regulation of CDH1 (E-cadherin encoding gene) in health and disease. For such purposes a vast array of molecular and cellular biology tools is used, namely: next generation sequencing, qPCR, allele-specific expression quantification, genome editing tools, reporter assays, EMSA assays, cell culture, flow cytometry, transfection, transduction, siRNA, aggregation and invasion in vitro assays among others. His work is translated into the publication of 19 peer review publications cited >380 times with regular participations in national and international conferences. He has h-index 9 at the age of 34 (Scopus Author ID: 26433783500). Hugo has participated in the writing of successful grants to national and international agencies and has contributed to the academic formation of young scientists through laboratory training of 2 Bsc and 5 graduate students.
