Pedro Albuquerque (PA) has a degree in Biology from the University of Porto, which was completed in 2005. During the last year of his degree, PA worked under the supervision of José Pissarra in the study of aspartic proteinases.

In 2006, PA moved to IBMC as a Research Fellow working with Fernando Tavares. PA carried out his PhD studies in Biology under the supervision of F Tavares and Marta V. Mendes at IBMC. During this period, from 2007 to 2012, PA focused mainly on enhancing DNA-based methods of bacterial detection. After concluding his PhD studies, PA moved to the Microbial Diversity and Evolution research group at CIBIO, where he worked as a Research Fellow and as a Postdoctoral researcher.

Since May 2017, PA is a member of the research team led by MV Mendes within the Bioengineering & Synthetic Microbiology group at i3S.

In total, PA’s publications include 15 papers in ISI journals, 6 as first author, and 2 conference proceedings. PA was a team member in 6 different projects and the work of PA and collaborators was presented in a total of 13 oral communications and 16 poster presentations.
