PhD Student

Having graduated from the University of Porto in Biochemistry in 2018, I obtained a Master degree in Biochemistry from the same university 2 years later. My thesis focused on tackling the emerging infections caused by Mycobacterium avium using antimicrobial peptides as new alternatives to the currently used antibiotics. Afterwards, I undertook an ERASMUS+ internship at the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia in Barcelona, Spain. I am now a student of the BiotechHealth PhD programme in ICBAS and I am doing my research work at i3S and UCIBIO under the supervision of Tânia Silva, Sérgio Sousa and Salomé Gomes. My PhD project is based on the discovery of new antimycobacterial peptides active against both M. avium and M. abscessus using newly built QSAR models.
