Consultant to the Portuguese Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defense (2008-2015). Full Professor of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Porto, since 2007. Founder and Scientific Coordinator of the Nephrology R&D Unit (FCT u725) from 2004-2014. President of Scientific Board of Portuguese Nephrology Society (2003-2013). President of the Ethics Committee of University of Porto (2016-2018). Presently he is the coordinator of Nephrology and Infeccious Diseases R&D group (Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde) and full professor in Medicine at the University of Porto. He is also the director of the Nephrology Department and Renal Transplant Unit of Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João. He has supervised 7 PhD theses concluded and is currently supervising 5 PhD students.
