Catarina Milheiro is a PhD student from the BiotechHealth international doctoral programme. She is currently developing her work at the Biofabrication Group at i3S, in collaboration with the Généthon institute/INSERM, in Évry, France. Her research project is focused on intervertebral disc regeneration strategies through the recapitulation of the disc’s fetal microenvironment. At the same time, her work is also motivated by the development of a novel therapeutical approach to low back pain. Catarina is strongly involved in science communication through the science ambassadors’ program at i3S, participation in various national and international conferences, and organizing scientific events for the academic community.
