Born in Porto 1961, finished medical school (Faculty of Medicine, Porto) in 1985. Specialist in Infectious Diseases;Department of Infectious Diseases Hospital S João since 1993 Invited professor of infectious diseases - since 2008 Research interests: Opportunistic infections in different hosts, mostly under immmunomodulator therapy: prevention, diagnosis and treatment Vaccinology Travel Medicine (ISTM member and Travel Medicine Certified in 2003) Works as a consultant in Infectious Diseases in a scholar hospital with 800 beds. Medical Coordinator of the outpatient clinic of Infectious Diseases Department (excluding HIV infection), comprising: General Infectious Diseases Clinic, Travel Medicine Clinic (more than 80 pre-travelers /month, 5-7 pos travel patients /month), and, since 2009, the Biologic Therapy Clinic (BTC). On BTC we provide consultation of patients prior to prescription of biologic therapies, mainly TNF inhibitor drugs,for the treatment of diseases related to Gastroenterology, Neurology, Rheumatology and Dermatology, with more than 250 new referrals/year. Active tuberculosis exclusion, treatment of latent tuberculosis, vaccination, others general preventive measures are provided and pre travel advise as needed.
