Inês Abrunhosa Amaral graduated in Biology in 2017 by University of Aveiro and completed the MSc in Molecular Biomedicine at the same institution in 2019. Her master thesis work was developed under the supervision of Dr. Ângelo Calado at the Rheumatology Research Unit (JEFonseca Lab) of Instituto de Medicina Molecular, Lisbon, and focused on the expression of lncRNAs in monocytes and osteoclasts of rheumatoid arthritis patients. Previously, she did a curricular traineeship under the supervision of Dr. Fátima Martel at Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade do Porto (Metabolism, Nutrititon and Endocrinology Research Group - i3S). This work aimed to evaluate the anticarcinogenic properties of metformin in breast cancer cell lines (Amaral et al., Biomedicine and Pharmacotherapy 2018).
During her academic career, she has also actively participated in several national and international conferences, presenting her work by poster and oral communications.
After concluding her MSc, Inês was accepted to BiotechHealth International PhD Programme (2020 edition) as the first in the ranking list of admitted candidates. Presently, she is developing her PhD project "Immunotherapy as a novel therapeutic approach for intervertebral disc herniation" at the Microenvironments for New Therapies (MiNT) Research Group, under the supervision of Dr. Carla Cunha, Prof, Mário Barbosa and Prof. Manuel Vilanova. Inês was awarded with an FCT PhD Fellowship.
