Rafael Santos obtained his MSc degree in Bioengineering with a specialization in Molecular Bioengineering from the University of Porto, in 2022. In 2021, he completed a 6-month Erasmus+ internship at the NanoBioTechnology group under the supervision of Prof. Andre Skirtach (Ghent University). His work during this time involved the synthesis and characterization of calcium carbonate microparticles for drug delivery applications. His master thesis work was conducted at i3S, under the supervision of Prof. Ana Paula Pêgo, and focused on the preparation and characterization of novel dendrimer-siRNA nanoparticles for the treatment of peripheral nerve injuries.

Currently, he is working as a research fellow at the nanoBiomaterials for Targeted Therapies group, under the framework of the “JumpIN” project.
