Carlos Marinho Botelho
PhD student

Carlos Marinho Botelho holds a Master's Degree in Molecular Bioengineering (Grade A) from the University of Porto, where he worked under the supervision of Professor Mário Barbosa on developing hydrogel platforms for in vitro modelling of colorectal cancer. He was later granted a Fellowship as part of the FETBIO Project (Grant Reference: PTDC/BTM-MAT/0438/2020).

Carlos has gained expertise in tissue decellularization, hydrogel preparation, bio-mechanical characterisation, and click chemistry modification. He has also demonstrated strong collaborative abilities and resilience in addressing complex scientific challenges.

Currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree, Carlos delves into the interrogations of fibrosis at the interface of neural electrodes. His research interests lie in the intersection of materials science and molecular biology, focusing on leveraging industrial by-products to create sustainable regenerative medicine therapies.
