Where Ideas Grow
Ana Maria Valentim
Junior Researcher
Researcher with a degree in Biology and a PhD in Veterinarian Sciences. After one year of post-doctoral research in the effects of anaesthesia in rodents, a two year FCT project as a Principal Investigator was funded regarding the effects of anaesthesia in zebrafish using behavioural tasks, morphology, genetics, cellular alterations and oxidative stress evaluation (IBMC, UTAD, CNBC). After an individual post-doctoral fellowship, she is currently a PI of the three-year project ZEBREFINE funded by FCT with the aim of optimizing zebrafish anaesthesia by improving clinical outcomes, avoiding side-effects, and improving animal welfare. Besides the line of research of laboratory animals anaesthesia refinement, the finding of better euthanasia methods and other issues in laboratory animal science are also topics of interest. Trainer in the Laboratory Animal Science course FELASA (cat C) at IBMC.
