Sofia Dias graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences at Instituto Universitário Ciências da Saúde (IUCS), in 2019. During that period, she participated in several research projects and had the opportunity to do a clinical internship at Hospital Universitário Doctor Peset, in Valencia (Spain), under the Erasmus + project. In 2021, she was granted a Research Fellowship that comprised the assessment of the permeability of topical formulations through Franz diffusion cells, allowing her to acquire skills in ex vivo techniques.
Currently, she is a PhD student in the Doctoral Programme of Biomedical Sciences, at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto (ICBAS-UP), under the supervision of Dr. Bruno Sarmento and Dr. Catarina Leite Pereira. Her project is being carried out in Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde, in the Nanomedicines and Translational Drug Delivery group, and it relies on the development of 3D in vitro models of colorectal cancer, to be used as pre-clinical platforms for drug and nanoparticle safety and efficacy screening.
Some of her current scientific interests include in vitro intestinal models, tissue engineering, targeted drug delivery, and nanomedicine.
