Technician

Monica is a biomedical laboratory technician with accumulated an extensive experience in both academic, clinical, and industrial settings. 

She started her work in life science field as technician in the G. Gaslini Institute - National Public Children’s Hospital and Research Institute located in Genova (IT). In the Molecular Genetics laboratory under the direction of Prof. Ravazzolo, she was the responsible for the cell culture laboratory and for the generation of hybrid somatic cells by cellular fusion between human cells and Hamster (YH21), clone selection and in vitro studies.

From 2006 until 2012 she developed her work at the Regenerative Medicine laboratory in  RCCS San Martino Hospital-IST national Cancer Research Institute. Under the direction of Prof. Cancedda, she was the responsible for human cell culture e.g. amniotic fluid stem cells, bone marrow stromal cells, articular chondrocytes among others, and full in vitro characterization under scientific interests of bone and cartilage tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In the same laboratory she defined standard protocols to culture human mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow origin. She was also the responsible for the day-to-day management of Prof. Gentili’s regenerative medicine sub-unit laboratory. 

She experienced 4 years of industry working on the Biotech spin-off Biorigen srl. Her technical role was to define and characterize human and horse in vitro cell culture assays with commercial products based on blood derivates as serum substitute supplement. She was the responsible for the day-to-day management of the spin-off.

From 2017 until August 2022 she developed her work as laboratory technician at the Microbiology Central Laboratory of RCCS San Martino Hospital- IST national Cancer Research Institute.
