Rute Oliveira

Rute Oliveira is a postdoctoral researcher working at the i3S Diagnostics. She graduated in Biology by the University of Porto and obtained her MSc from the University of Minho. In 2015, she was awarded an EMBO STF award to work with Mark Buttner at the John Innes Centre (JIC), UK. In 2016, Rute was awarded a FCT PhD fellowship to study how stress reprogrammes bacterial transcription and metabolism at the i3S (Supervisor: Marta Mendes) and at the John Innes Centre, UK (Co-supervisor: Mark Buttner). Having completed her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology in December 2020, Rute is committed to bringing significant progress to research in infectious diseases. She underwent 2 secondments at the Swiss biomedical industry. Currently at the i3S Diagnostics laboratory, Rute is currently working with healthcare units to develop new diagnostics for infectious disease based on microbial DNA sequencing in clinical samples.
