Domenico is a doctoral student at KU Leuven, Belgium, currently engaged in a research stay at the Synapse Biology Group at i3S. He attended the prestigious Nunziatella Military School in Napoli, Italy, and he then went on to receive his M.D. from the University of Napoli in 2016. He has prior experience working as a medical doctor on neurology wards in Germany, but eventually made the switch to fundamental research in neuroscience. He completed a research Master's degree in Neuroscience at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, graduating as best research master student with honors and co-authorship in two research papers. He is now pursuing his Ph.D. in Neuroscience focusing on studying the synaptic interactions between inhibitory neurons and astrocytes, supported by funding from the Flemish Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (FWO) for his doctoral project. He loves instructing and fostering excitement for glial cells, the non-neuronal cells of the nervous system.
