Daniel Carvalho completed his master’s degree in Pharmacy with a specialization in Technology of Medicine and Health Products in 2023 at the School of Health of the Polytechnic Institute of Porto (E2S – P.Porto) and his Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy in 2021 at the same institution. During his master's degree he worked on a project for the development of polymeric nanoparticles for quercetin delivery on the skin protection, where he developed knowledge of techniques related to nanotechnology, cell culture and chromatography. This work resulted in the publication of two articles in international peer-review journals and one book chapter.
During 2024 he worked on a project related to the development of a dual-culture model for bladder cancer, under the supervision of Prof. Bruno Sarmento in collaboration with Ferring Pharmaceuticals, where he acquired skills in 3D cell culture techniques.
He is currently studying for a PhD in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Porto's Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS). His project is focused on the development of self-propelled anisotropic nanoparticles for managing the biofilms responsible for recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis, under the supervision of Dr. José das Neves, and co-supervision of Dr. Manuel Vilanova and Dr. Daniel Ruiz-Molina.
