Rui Pereira
Collaborator

Rui Pereira is a postdoctoral visiting researcher at I3S/IPATIMUP where he works at the Population Genetics group lead by Professor Antonio Amorim. Rui has over 15 years of experience in developing and using genotyping assays for both forensic applications and population genetic studies, employing different forms of DNA variation as Short Tandem Repeats (STRs), Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) and Insertion Deletion Polymorphisms (indels). The centrepiece of his research career has been the creation of novel easy-to-use tools based on indel multiplexing, which are currently being applied in human identification (HID) studies and as simple Ancestry-Informative Marker (AIM) panels allowing to estimate ancestry proportions and evaluate population substructure effects in case-control association studies. Rui is member of the International Society for Forensic Genetics (ISFG) playing a particularly active role in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking working group (GHEP-ISFG) through the coordination of interlaboratorial collaborative exercises.
