Mafalda Raposo obtained her BSc in Biotechonology in 2004. She got a research fellowship in 2007 to join to Department of Biology at the University of the Azores. Since 2009, she has been doing research in Machado-Joseph Disease (MJD/SCA3), nowadays, as a PhD student in Biology (3CBIO, University of the Azores, www.3cbio.uac.pt). The main goals of her PhD project are to identify objective, accessible and easily measurable genomic and transcriptional biomarkers of MJD; these biomarkers should be useful to detect early pathogenic events, monitor disease progression and severity, as well as to enable improvements in the age at disease onset prediction.
