Animal facility training webinars
16 March, 26 July, 28 September 2021 and 22 February 2022 | Online

The facility webinars are organised by the i3S Animal facility,  with the aim of addressing themes related to laboratory animal science with impact on animal welfare or promoting good practices that lead to better scientific results. Every 3 months a new theme is discussed and a question session will also be available. Session duration: 1-2 hours

Session 1 (16-3-2021 | 14:00-15:30)
Tunnel handling - This session will be focused on handling methods with a lower impact on animal welfare. It will give an insight into the facility plans for rodent handling, to be implemented in the next months.

Session 2 (26-07-2021 | 14:00-15:30)
Colony management: Ensuring genetic stability and a defined background is a key point when using laboratory animals, as the genetic background can significantly change an experimental outcome. This session will explore the different tools to ensure genetic stability and background definition. Reproductive specificities will be discussed too.

Session 3 (28-9-2021 | 14:00)
Bioimaging techniques: imaging techniques are a great way of reducing the number of animals used for experiment purposes, improve the amount and quality of information you get from animals and a non-invasive tool for animal monitoring. Techniques such as the microCT, ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, Luminescence and fluorescence among others will be discussed in this session.

Session 4 (22-02-2022 | 14:00)
Animal welfare and procedures: improving animal welfare during procedures is a tool to improve scientific results and an ethical demand. Surgical procedures and severe models will be discussed and key points to improve the welfare of animals will be discussed. Animal monitoring will also be addressed.

Limited registrations. Registration is free but mandatory. 
Each webinar will be confirmed once the minimum of participants is guaranteed.
