Where Ideas Grow

Advanced Course on Organoid Models, 2nd Edition

21-25 November 2022 | i3S, Porto

This unique Advanced Course will combine the establishment of adult stem cells derived organoids with learning how to set them up on organs-on-chip systems.
The fundamentals of organoid models practical work will be addressed, and participants will learn how to culture ASCs derived intestinal, gastric and lung organoids. Moreover, they will be instructed on how to plan and run experiments using organoids and organs-on-chip. The specific protocols used for imaging, molecular biology and histology using organoids will be covered.

Target audicence: Master, PhD students and Early Stage Researchers

Course approximate duration: 35 hours

Requirements:
Prior knowledge required:
- Basic training in Biology, Bioengineering or related sciences;
- Cell culture techniques knowledge;
- Molecular biology techniques knowledge.

Course organizers: Anna Olsson, i3S; Marta Alves da Silva, i3S

Program

Participants will acquire the following skills:
 - establish and maintain cultures of intestinal, gastric and lung organoids;
 - learn how to design and plan experiments using organoids;
 - learn how to choose, set up and work with organs on chips;
 - prepare organoids samples for histological analysis;
 - analyze practical outcomes of their cultures by imaging techniques (brightfield and confocal microscopy).
