Life Science Intellectual Property: Management and Exploitation, 1st edition

According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), intellectual property: “…refers to creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names, and images used in commerce.
The aim of this workshop is to promote understanding of the meaning and value of Intellectual Property in academia, how it relates to academic research and the essential steps to protect and enhance it.
It is intended to convey legal bases of Intellectual Property Rights in practical situations such as confidentiality, transfer of materials, diffusion and dissemination of results, consortium agreements and service provision agreements, among others.

Program

This workshop will be divided into a theoretical concepts and practical exercises and a practical case study.

The specific topics on this workshop are:

Invention Disclosure: What’s important to know from the start?
Embargoing disclosures and reconciliating patenting with publications.
Diligences related to inventorship, co-ownership
Patent searches and patents as sources of technical information
Preparing a patent application (from manuscript to patent)
Managing a patent in terms of time, space and money
Classifying and prioritizing an IP portfolio
Target industry mapping and ascertaining the value of a patent
Technology offers, term sheets, approaches and negotiations towards licencing
What to expect from licencing deals?
Licencing to a start-up?

External participants*: 25 €

Certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the course to participants who are present for the entire day of the course.
